Visitor is Present

Renegotiating the relationship between historical canvases and contemporary self-performing culture through embodiment.

A surface documenting performative embodiments of H. Bosch's and P. Bruegel's complex paintings. Historical allegories are transformed into a participative event. The audience is invited to create an environment for such restaged figures. The overall image grows and changes over the time, as a sequence of visitor's interactions.

  • Visitor is Present: restaged figures in blue camouflage suits leap and crouch across a long black surface in a tiled hall
  • Visitor is Present: orange and blue dots swarm the restaged figures on the black wall, a sequence of visitor's interactions
  • Visitor is Present: one embodiment in a blue suit, restaged over and over, kicks and reaches among orange and blue dots
  • Visitor is Present: a visitor with a yellow bag faces the black surface where restaged figures swim in orange and blue dots
  • Visitor is Present: one visitor rides another's shoulders to press an orange dot high on the surface beside restaged figures
  • Visitor is Present: a sticker card invites the audience, 'Dear Visitor, place these stickers', beside orange and blue dots
