Poetic Machine Unlearning

2018
Research on algorithmic oppression and bias in the form of a single-player video game.

A video game where the player in the role of an engineer is shrunk and deployed inside the alien world of artificial intelligence. The goal is to search and fix algorithmic bias and other "feedback loops", therefore to prevent computational discrimination. Identifying and eliminating bias in AI systems is essential to building trust and fair conditions.

  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: painted heads and black blobs charted with spheres, purple feedback loops, tagged 'BIAS BUBBLES'
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: green crystals and drifting rocks on purple soil, score 3100 in the alien world of the video game
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: mossy boulders pile on red ground in an alien world, a label reads 'BIAS BUBBLES', score 1300
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: a giant painted head, green dots ringing its eyes, hovers in the video game's pink alien world
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: a black blob floats among purple crystal spikes in the alien world, bias labels above, score 300
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: mossy boulders roll past purple columns and green crystals, score 000 in the game's alien world
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: a painted head, eyes ringed in green dots, watches mossy boulders in the video game's alien world
  • Poetic Machine Unlearning: from above, pink trumpet columns, black spikes and corals crowd the video game's alien world
