Safety vs. Freedom
A window transformed into a surface for choice and participation.
Contemporary states often present freedom and safety as opposite qualities. In this project, we aimed to question this artificial binary antagonism. We created a situation where both –the need for safety & the drive for freedom– are equally fulfilled. This dialogue developed together with visitors.
Project Safety vs. Freedom exhibited surface as a record of collective activity. The participative opening event provoked: Do we vote for freedom, safety or both – and how do we get there? Store window-display then became a surface tracing participants’ decisions and an act of the visual dialogue.
